LOTR The Battle for Middle Earth The rise of the Witchking Review
Posted on January 22, 2008
Those who are used to playing Real Time Strategy (RTS) games have to agree that the demand for such games is increasing due to the release of games in the market such as Company of Heroes, Perimeter: Emperor’s Testament, Joint Task Force, Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, Supreme Commander, Medieval II Total War and many more. To add to the number, another RTS game (or to be more precise, another expansion pack) has been released into the market which is by Electronic Arts (EA). The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth – The rise of the Witch-king (whoa that’s a long name... (more...)

LionHeart Legacy of the Crusader Review
Posted on January 22, 2008
Any avid RPG player will be familiar with the past work of Black Isle Studios. Game such as PlaneScape: Torment, Fallout, Baldur’s gate & Icewind Dale have shaped the genre and given it direction. Lionheart is the latest title from Black Isle, an RPG that takes place in an alternate world. During the Third Crusade, an evil advisor of Richard the Lionheart fooled him into gathering holy artifacts to bless his soldiers and curse their foes. Richard’s blood sacrifice of 3,000 Muslims completed the dark ritual and created the disjunction. This split the human race into four distinct species;... (more...)
Juiced Review
Posted on January 22, 2008
Originally to be published under the Acclaim brand, the game was picked up by THQ after the original publisher folded, and was given extra development time for significant improvements and added features, though the “significance” added is a little bit outdated now. After playing so many street games I wonder if such a phenomenon really exists, but anyways it provides the much needed thrill, so as long as it’s on ground and under, its fine. Juiced gives you the opportunity to go from artist to overdrive and test their mettle online in one of the best head-to-head racing experiences... (more...)
Joint Task Force Review
Posted on January 22, 2008
First Impression Rejoice! Praise the Lord! Break open the holy coconut and perform other assorted religious rituals that are appropriate for the occasion. Why? Because we finally have a RTS that has nothing whatsoever to do with World War II. Gosh! Sometimes it seems RTS developers are caught in some type of mind warp that forbids them from thinking of anything except WWII. Finally here’s a game that tries something different. Joint Task Force (JTF) takes place next year, or 2008, and features current military weapons and vehicles. That in itself is a very unique concept because games tend... (more...)
IndyCar Series Review
Posted on January 22, 2008
By the time you read this Michael Schumacher will have won his 6th GP title. If speed is your thing, F1 simulations are a dime-a-dozen both on the consoles and the PC. However, Indy racing league games are few and far between while good Indy games are practically non-existent. Enter Codemasters and Brain in a Jar. IndyCar Series is a 15 race U.S. championship that takes place on 14 speedways in 13 states including Texas, California, Chicagoland and the world-famous Indianapolis 500 which has about four hundred thousand spectators per year! General Motors and Nissan manufacture the 3.5 litre V8... (more...)
IGI 2 Covert Strike Review
Posted on January 22, 2008
The original Project IGI: I’m Going In, released by EA in 2001, was a flawed beauty. It featured stealth, realistic weapons, modern-day conflicts and a robust engine but….But, but, but… The game was crippled by horrendous A.I., lack of in-game saves and a high level of difficulty. The game’s developers moved over to Codemasters, took notice of gamer criticism and two years later have released IGI 2: Covert Strike. Once again, you take on the role of the ex-Special Air Service (SAS) operative, David Jones. You work for IGI, the Institute for Geotactical Intelligence, which is a super... (more...)
Heroes of Might and Magic V Review
Posted on January 22, 2008
Just when it was thought that the hugely popular fantasy strategy game Heroes of Might and Magic had gone down the horizon with its developers, New World Computing calling it a day, Ubisoft and Nival Interactive have rescued the game by buying out the franchise much to the delight of its loyal fan base. With Nival understandably edgy, Heroes V resembles a lot like its predecessors. Though there have been the expected improvements, the basics are the same. There are still armies and heroes to be led across the fantasy landscapes. There are still resources to be collected and cities to be built.... (more...)
Heroes of Might and Magic V Hammers of Fate Review
Posted on January 22, 2008
First Impression It has happened many times in gaming history that a particular genre would be shell-shocked by a release, the publishers will then push hard for sequels and create a franchise, and then a few releases later the entire thing will became a sore disappointment. The same fate befell Heroes of Might and Magic and turn-based strategy (TBS) gamers were all ready to read the last rites and pay their respects to the death of another promising game franchise. Then Ubisoft and Nival came along, giving a whole thing a shot of something true and good and the result was Heroes of Might and... (more...)
Hell Forces Review
Posted on January 22, 2008
Hellforces is a first person shooter set in a post apocalyptic world that derives inspiration from such hollywood flopsters as End of Days and basically every zombie movie ever made. Developed by Orion, an unknown developer along with publisher Buka Entertainment, it follows the life of an unnamed hero. Henry Alfred Cole found a way to extract the soul from a human body and use it as a power source. The soulless bodies turned into zombies and creatures from hell occupied the moist innards of the damned. A demon from a parallel world, Baphomet, installed himself in one such soulless body and founded... (more...)
