Sam & Max Episode 6 Bright Side of the Moon Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

Eight months ago the great dog-rabbit duo of Sam and Max returned to thrill gamers with 6 episodes of Season 1. The first episode, Culture Shock, started off quite well, with the 2nd episode remaining fresh. The 3rd and 4th episodes hit the borderline of boredom through repetition. The games were still quite enjoyable but you ended up visiting the same locations and interacting with the same characters and solving the same sort of puzzles. Things picked up once again with the 5th episode and the first season of the return of Sam and Max ends on a high note with episode 6: Bright Side of the Moon. In... (more...)

Rome Total War Alexander Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

Few people throughout the history of mankind can claim to be the one who influenced the present world. Alexandros III Philippou Makedonon is one of them. Better known as Alexander the Great, he succeeded his father King Philip at a tender age of 19. Soon after subduing rival factions in Greece, Alexander commenced on a long campaign to conquer the whole world. After trampling all over Rome, Creative Assembly has now turned towards Greece to take their hit series to an altogether new level. First things first. This game is absolutely for those who are bored by thrashing the barbarians in the previous... (more...)

Resident Evil 4 Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

Anyone who loves a shooter game will have a thing for the Resident Evil series. It has been around from quite a long time and has spawned a movie series to starring Milla Jovovich. Background: Resident Evil was first released on the GameCube in 2002 and was later ported to the PS2. And now the game will hit the PC. As the game is a port, some parts may be a little hard to control. Graphics: For a PC game, if not great, the graphics of Resident Evil are good. The environments may seem a little untidy and unreal sometimes, but the characters and the weapons look quite real when you play. The blood... (more...)

Rainbow Six Raven Shield Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

Rainbow Six: Raven Shield is the third version of the award winning Rainbow Six series. We at GF reviewed the two earlier instalments in our previous issues. For those of you who haven’t read these reviews and want to, mail me and I’ll send you a copy. For those of you familiar with Team Rainbow, lets move on. This is a tactical shooter, which means the game-play is ultra realistic. No in-game saves. Also, a shot to the head WILL kill you and you won’t survive more than two or three shots to your body. If that. As always, you command Team Rainbow, a multinational team of the world’s best... (more...)

Racing Simulation 3 Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

There are maybe twenty or thirty people in the entire world that can drive F1 cars well. For the rest of us, there are simulations like RS3, where you get to race a F1 monster on 16 demanding circuits. Racing Simulation 3 is not officially licensed and so you will not find any real-world tracks or drivers. However most of the tracks are the same in layout as the original tracks, for e.g. the New Zealand track is actually Albert Park in Australia. As in most simulations, you have the options to fiddle with your car…change the gear ratios, tires, angles… Single player has the normal options... (more...)

After 6 years of Quake 3 Arena, Id Software has finally released Quake 4, developed by Raven Software’s and marketed by Activision. Instead of continuing the Deathmatch concept of Quake 3 arena, Raven chose to continue Quake 4 from where Quake 2 left off. Using a tweaked Doom 3 engine which provides for better graphics and gameplay, Raven developed another great game of the Quake series. Payback Time The game continues the story from where Quake 2 left, the Strogg invasion of Earth has been stopped and now to prevent anymore attacks; Earth’s forces have launched a massive attack on the Strogg’s... (more...)

Psychotoxic Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

NuclearVision’s Psychotoxic lives up to its title. It is toxic to your mental health and will leave you in a perpetual state of agonizing frustration garnished to the point of eruption with an unhealthy dose of boredom. The player plays as Angie Prophet is a cocktail of human and angel and must prevent the New York of 2022 from nuclear doom. She must seek and destroy the 4th horsemen of the apocalypse. The horseman is situated in a chamber system deep under the surface of New York and constantly assembles nanites, which quickly spread out across the glove and enter people’s brains to increase... (more...)

Psychonauts Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

Brain Damage Psychonauts is one of the most eclectic games that has ever been released. Tim Schafer, the tripster behind Grim Fandago, is the man behind the art direction of Psychonauts. The landscapes, the terrain and the entire games feel are miles ahead in terms of imagination and gameplay than any of the recent crop of recycled titles. The psychonauts are an elite bunch of mind warriors. The game begins at Whispering Rocks Psychic Summer Camp. Young odd shaped creatures are being trained by Coach Oleander, who has two eyes of varying colours. Raz aka Rasputin, is a runaway who has infiltrated... (more...)
