Star Wars Republic Commando Review
Posted on January 23, 2008
The Stars are at War The galaxy far far away is in trouble again. Constant unrest has made its violent presence felt once again. You command an elite bunch of helmet clad Republic Commandos, directing them through levels of neon enriched valleys of tech and mecha that fly and shoot long gusts of fire. Story wise, the game is standard fare, which is one of the reasons why developer and publisher LucasArts must have decided to keep it short. Regardless of the length, the game doesn’t feel stretched, although at occasions the mass of enemy presence to increase difficulty may be bothering. Fett’s... (more...)
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II Review
Posted on January 23, 2008
A long long time ago This sequel to the 2003 game of the year had a lot of clout even before it was released. Matching up to a game as acclaimed in story and polished in gameplay as KOTOR1 isn’t a easy feat to match. KOTORII takes place 5 years after its predecessor. You play a fallen jedi in a limbo on a spaceship called the Ebon Hawk. As you make your way through the initial stage, you find out that Jedi are in short supply and only a few people are alive. As you battle your way to droids, you meet the mysterious Kreia, a grey haired lady at odds with both the light and dark side of the... (more...)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Review
Posted on January 23, 2008
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is set in the Golden Age, over 4,000 years before the first Star Wars film. At this tumultuous time when both Jedi and evil Sith number in the thousands, the Galaxy is still reeling from a recent conflict with the Dark Lords. Now it faces a new threat led by two fallen Jedi: the newly deceased Darth Revan and his apprentice, Darth Malak. At the centre of this epic clash, you play a Republic soldier faced with a number of choices - the choice of good or of evil, the Light side or the Dark, the way of the Jedi or the path of the Sith. Your actions alone will... (more...)
Star Trek Elite Force Review
Posted on January 23, 2008
There are a few unwritten rules in the gaming universe. One of the oldest was that all games with a Star Trek theme suck. No exception. Unless you were a rabid Trekkie who thought that ST: The Next Gen was a brilliant program, chances are you hated every Trek-based game out there. This was true until Raven Software came out with ST: Voyager - Elite Force. Here was a shooter from the Star Trek universe that appealed to everyone! Needless to say, the game was a hit. Which ensured a sequel. Elite Force II is a fast paced, pleasing shooter that will satisfy not only Trekkie fans but also all gamers... (more...)
STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl Review
Posted on January 23, 2008
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a strange game in that at its core it is just a shooter but it is a shooter with an atmosphere that you might wish you could find in other shooters as well. Just do not expect any great role play elements in this one. You play the game as the “Marked One” and the game begins with you being thrown off of a truck filled with corpses. When you wake up you are inside the Zone in an underground spot somewhere. The Zone itself is an unimaginably twisted Chernobyl. Typically, you are suffering from amnesia and your PDA says, “Kill Strelok”.... (more...)
Splinter Cell Review

The balance of power is in your hands, as cyber terrorism and international tensions are about to explode into WW III. You have the Fifth Freedom, the freedom to kill, kidnap, steal, spy, assassinate and destroy in order to preserve the other four freedoms American civilians take for granted…freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear. If captured, the U.S. government will deny any knowledge of your existence. You are Sam Fisher, an ex-CIA, ex-Navy SEAL, now a highly trained secret operative of the National Security Agency’s secret arm: Third Echelon.... (more...)
Spiderman 3 Review
Posted on January 23, 2008
I think there is a curse on the Spiderman video game franchise. Either that or no one has so far figured out a control scheme that works on the keyboard mouse combo. Console users may be used to pushing buttons like crazy but the PC control scheme requires less danger of wrist injury through video game control. If you are a PC only player then you will know that console ports have two big problems. The first of course is the control scheme that is difficult to master and the second is the camera that follows its own rules. (I am reminded of the Prince being chased by the Dahaka in Warrior Within,... (more...)
Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific Review
Posted on January 23, 2008
Submarine sims have been around for decades now but in the past decade or so you rarely got to hear about them except in very specialized circles. In 2005 Ubisoft released Silent Hunter III and breathed new life into this ailing genre. The game offered a great balance between realism and playability and it did this with stunning graphics and some brilliant mission design. Two years later the developers have gathered all feedback, applied it to their original concept, and created Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific. The game is as good as its predecessor and though there are some problems it is... (more...)
Serious Sam II Review
Posted on January 23, 2008
Very often, we need a game that brings us back to what things once were. Serious Sam was a slap in the face of increasingly realistic and serious overtones in computer games. Bringing back fun in the real sense of the word, Serious Sam pit you against a flood of monsters designed to induce shock and bouts of retarded laughter altogether. Tied in with some stereotyped wit, the game pulled off the authentic feel of being a rip-off from something B-grade. And in spite of the fact that the game did not boast classy graphics or production values that would make Peter Jackson blush, the game and its... (more...)
Sam and Max Episode One Culture Shock Review
Posted on January 23, 2008
First Impression 1993 was the time when Lucas Arts was busy entertaining the world with awesome titles like Day of the Tentacle, the Monkey Island adventures of Guybrush Threepwood, Full Throttle, and an odd pair featuring a dog and a sadistic rabbit in Sam and Max Hit the Road. Those were the days when humorous adventure games were expected. The graphics were worthless by today’s standards, the audio was only MIDI, but the gameplay was never so much fun. Eventually the humor-adventure genre died down. It is futile to try and guess whether gamers got tired or developers ran out of inspiration... (more...)
