The Simpsons Hit And Run Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

Mysterious vans, spy cameras, crop circles!? What the heck is going on in Springfield? Radical Entertainment lets you crack the mystery as you explore your favourite town with your favourite cartoon characters, in their latest endeavour: The Simpsons: Hit & Run. At first glance, I thought that a game on the Simpsons couldn’t really be all that good, because… after all, it was another movie-based game. But once I started playing, I was in for a treat! Starting from the game intro, all through the toughest quests that the developers could come up with, right to the very end, it was... (more...)

The Rogue Spear Platinum Pack Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

Rogue Spear is the award winning, highly successful sequel to Rainbow Six (R6). We had an in depth review of R6 in our last issue and as both games are based on the same engine and have similar game play, I will be concentrating mainly on the improvements in this version of Red Storm’s tactical shooter. For those who do not have access to last month’s issue, you can either buy one NOW or mail me and I’ll send you a copy of the review. I’ll take a look at the new features, gameplay and playability enhancements. The Rogue Spear: Platinum Pack contains the full version of Rogue Spear... (more...)

The Great Escape Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

In the last few years, the once fragile link between Hollywood and the gaming world has strengthened considerably. More often than not, summer blockbusters are released alongside their video game adaptations. The only problem with this scenario is that the game is rushed through development in order to coincide its release with that of the movie. This results in fractured or incomplete gameplay as can be seen in Enter the Matrix or Wolverine’s Revenge. Even though The Great Escape is based on the movie of the same name, the games developers didn’t face this problem, mainly since the movie... (more...)

The Godfather 2006 Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

EA have the knack of turning million dollar licenses into blockbuster games, sometimes bordering on classics. This is especially true with hit series like Fifa, Madden NFL and NBA games. So when they bagged the license to turn the mother or should I say the father of mob films, “The Godfather” into a video game, expectations were naturally high. Overall, EA has not disappointed gamers, providing a fair recreation of the film and making an entertaining game. But at the same time the game does not excite you either. It has always being difficult to turn a successful movie into a great... (more...)

The Godfather Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

The God father. Perhaps the first truly epic film I saw as a child. Ever since then I’ve always wanted to be a part of the Mafia, live the mysterious life of the underworld. Thanks to my criminal tendencies, I was a lonely child. I always dreamt on in secret, though! Let me introduce you to the game that made my dreams come true. Welcome to Mafia, a 3-D action game played in the third person. The player assumes the role of a gangster, Tom Angelo (Tommy to his friends) in the city of Lost Heaven during the 1930s. This game follows his rise as a criminal, the death of his conscience and his final... (more...)

Terminator 3 Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

Take a game like Battlefield 1942. Rip out all the fun, all the brilliant design decisions that made it a great game. Remove the great maps and take away all the constant support offered by the developers. Now set the game in the future. Do this and you have Terminator 3: War of the Machines. This is essentially a team based multiplayer game. (There is a single player element that lets you play alongside computer-controlled bots but this mode is so bad its best left ignored.) You play either as a terminator on the side of Skynet or as a resistance fighter on the Tech-Com side. Each side has its... (more...)

Stronghold 2 Review

Posted on January 23, 2008

Hold On… Stronghold like the title suggests, is all about building a castle and a kingdom for your subjects and oiling it regularly. The game starts with what could be the biggest load in gaming history. Even after the initial calibration most games require to optimize it on the systems hardware, consecutive loads too take hellish minutes. The player must focus on building a chain of sustenance which the empire keeps functioning. In a capsulated version of the chaos theory, farmers must gather provisions to feed the population that can then work efficiently which in turn benefits the kingdom.... (more...)
