Warhammer 40000 Dawn of War Winter Assault Preview

New kids on the Block I’m quite sure each and every one of us has experienced the feeling of being overwhelmed in an altercation. We have all endured times where the odds were against us. If you turn on the TV and switch to the sports entertainment channel, you can even see four rule-breaking wrestler dudes playing the numbers game on a forsaken baby-faced hero. Unfair fights. They happen quite often. It’s when this ‘quite often’ turns to ‘all the time’ that things get really nasty. Meet the Imperial Guard, the all new playable faction from the expansion to... (more...)

The long arduous road out of hell The past few months saw people from all over the world spending a lot of time and money upgrading their computers as games like Far Cry, Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 vowed to make their old graphic cards and processors squeal in agony. A few replacements, purchases and overclocks later, the same people heaved sighs of relief. They had overcome the game giants at Ubisoft, Valve and id Software. The games ran without stint on the new powerhouses they had built. These machines would also eat up any expansion packs for breakfast. In the midst of all this, another group... (more...)

Universe at War Earth Assault Preview

Posted on January 24, 2008

Petroglyph is developing Universe at War: Earth Assault, a real time strategy (RTS) game that will be released for the PC this winter and the Xbox 360 version will follow in the first quarter of 2008. The game has 3 factions but as of now there are only two functioning factions, Novus and Hierarchy. Judging by what has been seen in the demos witnessed so far as the thorough presence of robotic life forms it may be safely assumed that the third faction is most likely to be robots. The Hierarchy invades the Earth in 2012 and they are basically giant robots (like those AT-AT walkers from Star Wars... (more...)

UFO Aftershock Preview

Posted on January 24, 2008

Intro. The year is 2054 and the earth is an un-inhabitable mass of land. An alien invasion fifty years ago renders the earth useless. This resulted in the remaining humans to flee to a floating island known as the Laputa, which is eventually destroyed by corruption and internal conflict. The humans must now try to reclaim earth from the forces that control it. This sets the premise for UFO: Aftershock, the sequel to ALTAR Interactive’s UFO: Aftermath which was released in late 2003. Tomb Raider Legend Preview

Lara Croft. The name sounds familiar. It should, since we’ve heard that name eight times before – Six times in games and two in movies. Lara Croft can be regarded as video gaming’s first and most well known computer generated celebrity. Her first appearance in the original ‘Tomb Raider’ game rocked the gaming industry like an earthquake without warning. The game became so popular that Lara became a star overnight. Especially in the minds of male gamers. A female Indiana Jones was what she came to be known as. After all, in those days, the concept of being able to control... (more...)

Titan Quest Preview

In the tender care of Zeus Sometime early last month, publishing house THQ announced development of a new action role-playing game by Iron Lore Entertainment, the company founded by Brian Sullivan, the co-creator of the cult classic Age of Empires. I was initially skeptical about the quality of the game, as it was always referred to as a Diablo clone. Their showing at E3 silenced skeptics and made everyone else sit up and take notice. Now, people just cannot shut up about Titan Quest. Neck deep in Greek mythology, Titan Quest follows the story of the Greek gods known as the Titans and their clash... (more...)
