Multiplayer gaming is catching up in India big time, the adrenaline rush that one gets while playing another live player over a network surpasses the experience of playing a game in its single player mode. Although racing ahead or fragging the living hell out of the AI controlled elements of a game are exhilarating, hearing your friend’s shouts and seeing the expression on his face when he gets fragged or pummeled takes you into a whole different dimension. The scene was perfect! With only the upper bracket, lower finals and grand finals slated for the day, the spectators were all anxious to see who would represent Pune at the national finals in Mumbai in October. The venue filled up thick and fast and soon people were trying to pick out who would be the winners! What an event! No rains or power cuts but the event still had enough excitement to keep everyone on their feet. The venue was filled with over 150 spectators trying to catch a glimpse of all the action. Things started a little slow but things picked up by 10:30. With all the CS amateur and professional teams arriving, it was time for the Counter-Strike event to begin. Alongside the DotA matches were to continue for the loser’s and winner’s bracket! After it’s successful and exciting completion in Bangalore which saw the participation of big teams like aka and i5 it was Pune’s turn to keep that momentum going. Well, it sure did maintain that momentum and took an immediate liking to the format and organization of the tournament. Incessant rains, delayed start, followed by power cuts mid-way and a few along-the-line debates about rules with the admins, didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the Pune gamers. The much awaited World GameMaster Tournament (WGT) Finals kicked off on 15th October 2006 at the Inorbit Mall in Mumbai. The event was inaugurated by Ms. Selina Zhang, Marcomm Head, ASUSTeK, which is one of the leading PC Component and Notebook Computer manufacturer. Also present for the inauguration were the Head of Sales ATI Technologies, India, Mr. Rajshekhar Bhatt, Mr. Albert Tung, Country Manager, ASUS Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. 26th September 2006, the D-day had finally arrived. With the preliminary and elimination rounds all over it was time to get to the business end of things. The WCG 2006 India Finals were being held at the World Trade Center in Mumbai. The event kicked off promptly at around 10 in the morning. Right from the entrance to the hall where the finals were being held, one could feel the buzz and excitement in the air. All finalists were divided into 2 groups.
