Microsoft Slashing Xbox 360 Prices in US

September 5, 2008

Microsoft Xbox 360 Last time Microsoft sure surprised all of us when they dosed on more storage space and yet maintained the same lower price. Now the company throws in one more surprise by introducing new pricing schemes; from today the 120GB Elite will be priced at $399 (approx. Rs. 17, 775), the latest 60GB 360 which is the successor to the 20GB Pro will price itself at $299 (approx. Rs. 13, 320).

If that wasn’t enough of a surprise, Xbox 360 Arcade will boast of a price which is below the $200 mark with a price tag of $199 (approx. Rs. 8865). While the Sony PlayStation 3 becomes the top selling console, Xbox 360 competes its way to the 2nd position in gaming consoles. The price cut is one of the ways for the company to hang on to the position and place more pressure on the rivals.

“We are thrilled to be the first next-generation console on the market to reach $199, a price that invites everyone to enjoy Xbox 360,” remarked Don Mattrick, senior vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “Xbox 360 delivers amazing performance at an extraordinary value with the leading online service and best lineup of games, downloadable movies and TV shows available from a console. The majority of consumers make the decision to buy consoles once the price falls to this mark, making this an important milestone for consumers and the industry.”

Apparently, the reason speculated for Microsoft to provide such a low price is due to the new lower cost version of the electronics used in the machine of the console. The quality of the gaming console yet remains intact and the console sure promises an entertaining time with feature-rich games that can keep you glued on to your seats and all of it at a lower cost.
