Gauntlet for Nintendo DS announced by Eidos

April 7, 2008

Gauntlet From the time the fantasy-themed hack and slash arcade game has been released, millions of gamers have enjoyed playing Gauntlet. It has spurned a lot of sequels. Now Eidos Interactive has announced that a modern reworking of the classic Gauntlet will be released on the Nintendo DS.

Ray Livingston is the Brand Manager at Eidos. He commented, “With Gauntlet we’ve revitalized all of the action and fun of the original 1980s arcade classic, at the same time as updating the visuals and gameplay for today’s DS gamer. With four-player Wi-Fi cooperative mode, one of the most memorable multiplayer gaming experiences of all time is back with a bang.”

Gauntlet features the four classic heroes, Elf, Warrior, Wizard, and Valkyrie. Gamers can select any one of them as they lacerate their way through demonic enemies and increase up to four power move abilities to assist them in their encounter with the evil. One of the best things about the Nintendo DS version of Gauntlet is that it has Voiceover IP (VoIP) that allows voice communication through the Nintendo DS microphone. This offers gamers more ways to interact with their friends online.

Gauntlet for the Nintendo DS will have forty maps across three realms. It has fast-paced, retro RPG crusade-style gameplay along with new and in-depth multiplayer features like competitive multiplayer and cooperative play. It also has multiplayer games such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Treasure Hoard game modes. These can be hosted with local Nintendo Wireless play or via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Gauntlet for the Nintendo DS is being developed by Backbone Entertainment, which is a division of Foundation 9 Entertainment. The hack and slash game is expected to be out in 2008.
