Zapak Corporate Gamer Tournament Finals take off at Mumbai, India

Zapak Corporate Gamer 2008 Bored with the office work and want to move on to a totally different world of gaming for a change, well here’s a gist of an event where people from the corporate world came together and had a ball playing casual flash-based and PC games.

Organized by Zapak – a division of Reliance, the ‘Corporate Gamer’ - a national level gaming tournament took off in the beginning of March. The competition was open to executives of all levels, from lower level executives to chief executives. It was noticed that over 2000 corporates from 100 organizations participated in the tournament. The finals of the tournament were on 21st March at Hard Rock cafe in Mumbai, India.

Before the finale, the gaming company conducted the preliminary rounds of the tournaments at Zapak Gameplexes in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore on 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th of March. Games like Counter Strike 1.6, a tactical game involving shooting of terrorists; FIFA, a football game; Need for Speed (NFS), a car racing game; and Zuma, Bejeweled and Heavy Weapon, the casual games were chosen for the event.

Arun Mehra, Chief Marketing Officer, Zapak, says, “A lot of corporate professionals in BPOs, ad agencies, IT and telecom companies play games on the Internet in their office during breaks and this competition is a natural extension to reach out to them and recognise gaming champions among corporates.”

In the final competition, 30 finalists were chosen wherein 10 belonged to Delhi and Bangalore. The winners were:

  • Zuma:Deenu Abhishek, Bangalore
  • Bejeweled Deluxe: Deenu Abhishek, Bangalore
  • Heavy Weapon: Anshul Maheshwary, Delhi
  • FIFA ‘07: Surendra Singh, Bangalore
  • NFS – Most Wanted: Jimmy, Mumbai
  • Counter Strike: Live2Own, Mumbai
  • While, the Corporate Gamer gaming tournament was co-sponsored by Electronics Art and the associate partners were Kingfisher Airlines and Force India. A budget of Rs 50 lakh had been allocated to promote the tournament.

    Such kinds of event are sure to prove as enormous stress busters for the participants.
