WCG India 2005 Game Over
February 5, 2008
After a gruelling schedule of screaming, nail chewing, sweating and a lot of gaming, World Cyber Games India came to a close with the finals held in Mumbai at the Kamala Mill Compound, Lower Parel.
In the four years since WCG started, one ticket has always been pre booked. Rahul ‘Stormblast’ Rohira, formally of [too many clans to name] fame is at this very moment, checking hardware websites to see what he can bring back from Singapore. With ACID, composing Rahul, Jenil, Lalit, Deepak and Ranjeet, winning in Counterstrike again, Stormblast is obviously jubiliant. Ricky from Kawabonka, a former TUA member and part of the first Indian team to go to WCG, “Well 5 years in a row is amazing man, hats off to him”. Ask Stormblast about how he thinks they will perform at Singapore this time, and he delivers a subtle measured response “dunno its Cs: source over there”, which when interpreted means that this time around too, ACID is just going for the drinks.
Warcraft 3 too had a repeat winner, with Nickunj Bhansal (vSport.HeaVeN) from Chennai, winning for the second time in a row. The final took place between vSport.HeaVeN (Human) and Rod3nt (Pune, Undead), maps being Echo Isles and Turtle Rock, Nickunj won both. In Need for speed: Underground; vSport.Nostalgia (Dhruv) from Mumbai went up against Dhawal (Pune), in a best of 5, Dhruv winning it 3-0. In Fifa, Vishal from Pune won against some dude from Mumbai, who I am sure will come back strongly next time, ensuring that no one ever refers to him as ’some dude’ next year when he is standing on the podium. The new RTS entrant in the championship, Dawn of War, didn’t disappoint in terms of participation. vSport.wcil from Bangalore went up against Vs. vSport.Raxit13 from Ahmedabad, on the maps Blood River and Outer Reaches, Raxit winning both to qualify for a special edition strip show in mainland Singapore.
That’s all for now folks, we will update this soon with links to demos, take heart in the pictures till then.
