Rage Gaming Awards After Show Party
February 5, 2008
After the completion of the enjoyable and informative RAGE award ceremony, we headed towards the banquet hall where the after show cocktail party was scheduled to be held. Upon entering the place I could see the difference in the crowd from the award ceremony. Many youngsters were missing and a whole lot of corporate people were present indicating that this was something indeed exclusive. There was also a local DJ playing some decent tunes on the sound system.
Majority of the people were seen making their way to the table where the drinks were being served. I too joined the party but had to restrict myself to just a couple of rums so that I could be myself while talking to the industry hotshots.
Majority of the evening was basically spent in a plethora of introductions, exchange of business cards and a whole lot of handshakes. In fact when I left the party, late in the night, I could feel my buttocks aching whenever I sat down, due to the fact that my wallet had become really thick by holding a stack of business cards.
Coming back to the party, I interacted with a lot of people. There were fellow journalists, game developers, distributors, publishers and even venture capitalists chilling out and enjoying the booze and the awesome and scrumptious dinner. One particular conversation that I would consider as one of the best ones was the one with Mr. Joey G.Alarilla, President of Asian Gaming Journalist Association (AGJA) who had earlier impressed me with his really insightful seminar aswell. We discussed a lot of things about gaming, journalism, the increasing popularity of New Game Journalism (NGJ) and the gaming culture in India and other Asian countries.
It was midnight when we actually gave it a thought on leaving the place. We finally left the place after bidding good byes and congratulating the RAGE team, for the wonderful job they had done to assemble the biggies from the industry under one roof for the first time in the history of Indian gaming.
I took a cab back home remembering the talks we had with so many people counting the business cards that I had accumulated in a single night and eagerly waiting for the next RAGE expo and anticipating the seminars which would take place in the following two days.
