The Cage of Kane
Lucas Kane, had everything, an ordinary life, friends, job and a curvy 20 something sitting on the next bar stool. This was until he decided to go to the restroom. In the filth that surrounded him, true to an ancient prophecy, he was possessed, gutting another fellow defecator. Moments later his life changed, Lucas is contemplating options, should he barge out of the restroom completely drenched in the blood of another man and risk running into the waitress? Should he stay back for a while, hide the body in one of the stalls, clean himself up and walk out nonchalantly?
Quantic Dream returns after a two year hiatus. The developers of the adventure hit Omikron have teamed up with publisher Atari for their new adventure game Indigo Prophecy. This new offering guarantees to draw blood in more ways than one. Having a compelling story put together by David Cage, the game offers unique gameplay and brings about a few innovations as well.
The power of Christ compels you….
The players gets to play from the perspective of four people, the unfortunate Lucas Kane, and Lucas’ brother Marcus Kane, Detective Tyler Miles, Detective Carla Valenti. The game begins with the opening sequence of Lucas being possessed and committing a heinous crime. Indigo prophecy is made towards giving the best immersive experience possible. The game literally has multiple ways to approach a situation, complete with dramatic settings to give you a cinematic experience. Take for instance, if you linger in the restroom for too long, a cop sitting at the table will begin making his way to the loo. You screen will be divided into two panels, on the left will be your current position and on the right will be the approaching cop. Depending on the situation you will have to make a quick decision. Time is an omnipotent factor in this game with certain decisions to be made within a given time frame. The tools of the trade Quantic dream has worked towards minimizing clutter in the game.
There are no inventories or a thousand side menus for each function key. Instead, there are various options depending on objects in the environment and situations. Each decision affects the way the game turns out. For instance, in the opening scenario, if you decide to rush out in your blood dripping Armani, the waitress will take note and will be able to offer the detectives a detailed description of your appearance. If you take the second option, that is hiding the body in the stalls, dumping the murder weapon, cleaning up and walking out
nonchalantly, you will draw lesser attention, albeit you don’t forget to pay your bill. Playing from the perspective of different characters is not going to be a bore either. Depending on the options you choose, the story alters itself for the other characters too. When the detectives arrive on the crime scene, they will be given only the requisite information. Thus, if you hide the murder weapon, the screen fades away to insure that the player is not shown where the murder weapon is hidden, and hence has to
find it for himself when he takes on the role as detective.
Genius and Insanity
The player has to maintain the psychological balance of Lucas Kage which depends on the options the player chooses. The player must make sure he is in decent mental health, for if he is to digress, he could commit suicide and end the game. The controls for the game are intuitive, with the player being able to control the way a door is opened, the way the body is hidden amongst other things. The action sequences have been beautifully choreographed and completely immerse the player in the celluloid feel of the game. The various options available are bound to keep addicts hooked on to the extensive replayability options that this game offers. The sound of the game is expected to be top notch. In conjunction with the graphics, gamers can expect the eerie atmosphere that Quantic Dream has set out to create.
The prophecy fulfilled
Releasing in September for the PC, Ps2 and Xbox, Indigo prophecy has enough potential to generate curiosity even amongst the casual gamers and the non adventure gaming crowd. Desperately awaited.
