Project Snowblind Review

January 23, 2008

Project Snowblind The snowflakes glisten on the tree Project Snowblind is a fast paced shooter that streams ideas from a variety of games and films to fuse together a well knit adrenaline dripping game.

The game is set in Hong Kong 2065. You take on the role of Nathan Frost, 2nd lieutenant of the prestigious Liberty Coalition. When he turns into vegetable due to an explosion on the battlefield, a bunch of scientists get together their gear and turn him into Robocop. The pumped up super soldier must battle death defying odds and turn hero to save the world from complete disaster. The story draws a lot of inspiration from the likes of Dues Ex and spy movies. You will be required to keep upgrading your body with various bio augmentations to function effectively.

The gameplay toggles between an all-out orgy of bullets to silent cold stealth. Both single player and multiplayer modes have vehicle support. There are a total of 11 missions with 16 maps including an opera house turned prison, a Buddhist temple converted to a temple base and urban wastelands, all which must be desecrated to maintain your reputation as doom incarnate.

Your weapons consist of the R-56 Rocket launcher, the herf gun (read as pulse gun), PLA carbine (m4a1), the single shot kicker, which you can use to push or pull objects at a distance, The Ice pick, best left to imagination and a variety of other guns such as a sniper rifle, shotgun and flechetter rifle. Almost every conceivable weapon which burns, bombs and maims is included in the game, topped off with alternate fire options for almost all of them.

Crystal world with winter flowers

The objectives are standard game fare. Stealth missions are versatile, which means if you get tired of being silent and deadly, you can get violent and even more deadly. The game on the whole is hassle free, quick loads and a minimap on your HUD make life easy and fun.

Project Snowblind offers multiplayer support with the usual bevy of ctf, deathmatch and other modes. The multiplayer is good brain dead fun to play. The graphics of the game aren’t what you would normally expect of a title releasing this side of D3 or Halflife2, but this is one of the few gems that you will cherish. Wholesomely packed with dollops of entertaining action, Project Snowblind is a well placed shooter with good visuals and decent sound. The game isn’t in the same league as more recent titles in regards to graphics, but its presentation packs a punch nevertheless.
